Description

Storybook Advent Calendar is a chance to celebrate the season of Advent with a story for each night, (December 1-25).  We’ve combined classics from some of Europe and America’s greatest writers, as well as seven original or adapted stories by Lewis Brech. It’s a chance to discover classic literature, learn about other cultures and share the spirit of Christmas with those you love.

This is a Christmas book for parents who want their children to be worldly, well educated, curious and well read. American writer Laura (Lewis) and British musician Michael (Brech) created a book we’d want our children to read, which embraces our love of Christ and our respect for education, learning and cultural diversity. We purposely chose stories that would challenge young readers and parents beyond standard 6-10 year old curriculum, which limits children to only learning 500 new words a year. Examples of more difficult stories include Sir Walter Scott’s excerpt from Marmion, Charles Dicken’s excerpt from A Christmas Carol: Christmas at Fezziwig’s Warehouse and Khalil Gibran’s Anna, Mother of Mary. These advanced stories are interspersed with much simpler stories, as well as classic Christmas fare like Moore’s ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas.

The book is a labor of love and one we hope you enjoy as much as we enjoyed creating it. This PDF version displays beautifully on tablets.

Each story includes the country it is from, the author’s name, date of birth and death.  The lyrics in the second section of the book for the British Christmas Carols include the country of origin, composer and lyricist names and year of release. Music is available through the Storybook Advent Carols Collection.
